LEGO recently sent us this adorable DUPLO set for Jansen. I am not quite sure who was more excited, me or him… We both saw endless opportunities for hours of fun. Of course we played with the tractor and we built towers, cars and houses. However, DUPLO sets are much more than building blocks. I saw incredible teaching moments when we started talking about colors, numbers and fruit – in both English and Danish, which then led me to make these super fun DUPLO flash cards. Jansen and I counted objects and bricks, added and subtracted through stories and we talked about the fruit, food and colors. Best of all was when I taught him the Danish words, colors and numbers. Optimal teaching opportunities come when you introduce a child to new words and concepts through natural play. All of a sudden, Jansen was learning without realizing it. Getting Jansen ready for preschool is proving to be SO much fun.
His brothers overheard us talking about English and Danish words. Suddenly I had a small audience of boys with piqued interests and open minds. I made these flash cards to keep in my purse. They are perfect for restaurants and doctor’s offices – for all the times I need to quietly entertain a group of boys of varying ages and skill levels.
This is the DUPLO set that inspired the flash cards: My First Tractor, set # 10615
