Middle school! I can’t even say those two words together without getting sweaty palms, thinking back to my own awkward teenage years. Slowly, school was a becoming more like a chore and less of a fun challenge. However, one thing always stayed a constant in my life: books!

I remember spending hours at our local library, in search for the perfect book. The one that swallowed me whole, grabbed me by the hand and introduced me to another world of characters. I knew I had a good book in my hands, when reading just a few pages in the middle of the busy library made me forget time, place and purpose. I would then ransack the shelves for all the books by the same author, in hopes that the writer was able to duplicate his story-telling talent over and over.

If you are on the same quest for your middle schooler, looking for the best captivating books for them, this list is it. The Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books for Grades 6 – 8.
