How to Make a Magical Wooden Christmas Bell Craft

(Thank you to Woodpeckers® for sponsoring this post in return for my honest opinion about their products. All opinions stated are 100% mine.)

The six of us, snuggled up close on the comfy couch, each with a bowl of popcorn. The smell of freshly popped corn kernels and warm melted butter is mixed in the air with the earthy scent of our decorated Christmas tree.

One of our most treasured traditions is our Christmas Eve family movie night watching the Polar Express.

This is how we have spent Christmas Eve the past several years. Although we know the movie backwards and forwards by now, it still captures the kids’ attention from start to finish.

My favorite part is the bell, hearing the faint chime, confirming the child’s belief in Christmas. Every time I hear a bell, my thoughts instantly take me back to the Polar Express, bundled up on the couch with my husband and the kids, the popcorn… and the thought of kids believing in the magic of Christmas. Family traditions during the Holidays is the glue that keeps families bonded through the years.

This year, I decided to make magic Christmas bells for the kids and WOW – they were an instant hit! Our littlest refuses to take off his bell. (This Polar Express discovery bottle is adorable too!)

The good news is, we never wonder where he is in the house! The bad news, hmmmmm – I can’t think of one, even the sweet chime doesn’t get old. It simply reminds me that he’s still young enough to get caught up in the magic of the Christmas spirit.

Supplies Needed to Make a Magical Christmas Bell Craft:

  • Wooden bells from Woodpeckers on Amazon
  • Acrylic craft paint. A matte finish gives the best results.
  • Paint brush
  • Ribbon

Instructions on how to make a Magical Christmas Bell Craft:

Santa Belt Bell:

  • Paint the entire bell red, let it dry.
  • Paint a black belt all the way around the bell.
  • Add black shirt buttons using the “wrong” end of the paint brush.
  • Finish with a yellow belt buckle.
  • Once the paint is dry, attach a ribbon. Approximately 6” for an ornament or 18’ for a necklace.

Elf Bell:

  • Paint the bottom 3/4 of the bell pink by mixing red and white paints.
  • Paint the top 1/4 red.
  • Use an old paint brush and paint the white “fluffy part” of the hat, where the pink and red paints meet. Push the paint brush down, to give a textured look.
  • Remember to paint the very top of the bell white, as the pompom on his hat.
  • Using the “wrong” end of the paint brush, paint black eyes.
  • Then add pink cheeks and a smiling red mouth.
  • Once the paint is dry, attach a ribbon. Approximately 6” for an ornament or 18’ for a necklace.

Snowman Bell:

  • Paint the bell white.
  • Using the “wrong” end of a paint brush, add black dots for eyes and the mouth. (You can strangeically place the mouth so you take advantage of the round holes in the bell.)
  • Paint an orange carrot nose.
  • Once the paint is dry, attach a ribbon. Approximately 6” for an ornament or 18’ for a necklace.
