I am SURE you have been in this situation several times if your kids love LEGO DUPLO like ours do.

Here we are, on the floor of their room, surrounded by a sea of red, blue and yellow LEGO DUPLO bricks. Jansen (4), Jonah (2) and I, in-between incomplete sets, half assembled buildings and wheel-less cars. Now what?!

The kids are BEGGING for me to build a zoo with for them. Let me see here, a zoo, that’s just a square with a few windows and doors, right? Oh, judging from the impatient whining, we are supposed to also fill the place with animals – animals made out of bricks, that is. I do what every self-respecting Brick Mom would do…

How to create, play and have fun with LEGO DUPLO. Lots of inspiration to learn and enjoy free-play with your child. Hands-on learning tips.

I push a pile of bricks in front of each kid, and say with great enthusiasm: “let’s use our imaginations when we build our creatures.” But my micro-managers are not that easily swayed, especially not the 4-year old.

I find myself left with one last trick up my sleeve, moms’ simultaneous nemesis, and virtual-BFF: Pinterest. I quickly find lots of awesome building inspiration. Instead of keeping them all to myself, I am sharing the best with you – because motherhood is a sisterhood of women drowning in random LEGO bricks – at least in my world.
