Hygge Box Review: Give the Gift of Hygge

It is said, one of the greatest gifts of all is the gift of time. How about giving the gift of hygge? I would argue that giving someone a present of presence is equally as valuable as time itself.

Recently, I have been treating myself to more hygge, more presence in the moment and contentment in the now. These conscious changes in my behavior have led to more quality time with the ones I love, better sleep at night and an over-all much lower level of stress.

I was recently sent a Hygge Box to review on my blog. I had seen an ad for it online and thought to myself “wow, a monthly gift of hygge, contentment, and happiness?! Who wouldn’t want that?!”

The Hygge Box is the perfect subscription box to gift your friend, a relative or even yourself. Whomever the recipient is, the box is sure to be well-received, appreciated and will provide lots of hygge.

I was sent the March Deluxe box. The quality of the content was great and some of the items were quite surprising, but perfect for eliciting hygge and coziness. There’s nothing better than a subscription box that pleasantly surprises you.

The Deluxe Hygge Box starts at $44.95/ month and will wow you with the following:

• 5-7 handpicked seasonal items from around the world.
• Elements of light. (The epitome of hygge is a candlelight moment).
• Hot drinks. (Think something soothing, fragrant or calming.)
• Indulgence. (Hygge happens around savory flavors.)
• Home decor, accessories, bath and beauty items. (Bring coziness inside your home.)
• More full-size and luxury items.

In no particular order, this was the content of the March 2019 Hygge Box:

• As I opened the box, I was greeted by a beautiful card listing the content of the box in great detail. I quickly put the card aside, as I wanted the element of surprise as I dug through the box. However, the card came in handy afterward to read about each item.
• Personally, I am *slightly* obsessed with lavender – and all things lavender scented. The lavender soy candle in the box made me a bit giddy. There’s nothing more hyggeligt than candlelight and being surrounded by your favorite (calming) scent!
• Next up, I found a beautiful box of crisp waffle cookies. The buttery flavor did not disappoint. Even my kids loved the “melt on your tongue” buttery flavor of these thin and delicate cookies. They went perfectly with the tea!

• The tin containing the Li Hua Mao tea was so cute that I immediately had to open it. When I lifted the lid, the most deliciously fragrant white and green tea medley caught the attention of every one of my senses. It smelled heavenly… and tasted equally amazing. Paired perfectly with the waffle cookies.
• If you are into a hygge lifestyle, chances are you have a healthy collection of socks. Yes, socks! Keeping your feet warm and toasty is all part of feeling comfortable enough to embrace hygge and live in the moment. This Hygge Box came complete with the cutest and most whimsical mushroom socks. I love them and have worn them more often than I probably should. What a perfect hygge surprise.
• Since so much of feeling hygge involves appeasing all your senses, the little sachet filled with cedar wood chips was a perfect addition to the box. – It will go perfectly in my sock drawer since we just established that I have a healthy sock collection.
• One of my favorite “Scan Design” home decor elements has always been their fragile wood or paper decorations. This Hygge Box included the most intricate redwood bird, which required some assembly. What a beautiful piece of art – perfect for your display of favorite things that evoke a sense of hygge in your home.
• Last, but not least, the Hygge Box included a DVD titled “Finding Hygge” – and what a perfect addition to the box it was. This documentary gives you great insight into the complexities of hygge and how adding hygge to your life is like sprinkling happiness throughout your experiences.

This Hygge Box did NOT disappoint. It was the perfect mix of “something for the senses” and lots of elements of wonderment and surprise.

Giving a Hygge Box subscription is the perfect way to introduce your friends or relatives to your hygge lifestyle. They will receive everything they need to add hygge to a special evening or a one of a kind event.

The best way I have ever explained “hygge” to non-Danes has always been “hygge can’t be translated, it has to be felt.” Gifting a Hygge Box is the perfect way to “translate” hygge and convert your friends and relatives to embrace a more present-and-in-the-moment way of life.
